Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways introduces interactive COVID-19 travel map

Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways has launched an interactive map on its website so travellers can check out COVID-19 information in destinations around the world.

The UAE's national airline has teamed up with Canadian firm Sitata on the map, which means you can find out what's happening in any country that Etihad flies to.

The information comes from announcements made by each country's governments, as well as official websites and reputable media and is then vetted by the Sitata team before being uploaded to etihad.com.

Frank Meyer, chief digital officer, Etihad Aviation Group said: “With travel restrictions beginning to ease in many destinations, we are keen to provide our guests with current information on COVID-19 related guidelines from the countries they plan to travel to.

The map provides information such as border restrictions, curfew timings, mandatory precautionary measures, quarantine rules, airport and flight operations, and the number of current active COVID-19 cases in each destination.

"The current situation is still very volatile and dynamic, and with new guidelines being implemented on a daily basis - and sometimes even more frequently - it is important for us as an airline to support our guests with as much information as possible.”

Adam St. John, chief executive officer, Sitata, added: “Etihad’s fast response to addressing traveller health and safety has shown tremendous leadership in the aviation industry. Sitata is proud to be working with their organisation to help give peace of mind while traveling during the current crisis. We believe our core competency in intelligence gathering can greatly benefit those looking to travel in the near future and we’ll continue to support the travel industry through these unprecedented and rapidly evolving times."

The news comes after Etihad introduced a COVID-19 self-assessment tool and announced more flight options are returning from July 14.
