Quick getaways by plane from Dubai

Places you can reach in less than an hour in the air

Sir Bani Yas Island
This natural island some 250km south west of the city of Abu Dhabi is a great place to visit. It’s a bird sanctuary and a wildlife reserve where you can go on safaris and try kayaking, mountain biking, archery, hiking and snorkelling. It’ll take you a good two-and-a-half hours to drive and you’ll need to get a boat as well, whereas you can fly there from Dubai in an hour with Rotana.

You could drive to nearby Oman in around four-and-a-half hours (and it is a scenic trip along the coast) or you can hop on a plane in Dubai and be there in an hour. We recommend visiting the new Royal Opera House there plus the seaside town of Shatti Al Qurum, plus Jabreen Castle, which dates back to 1670. Comedian Russell Peters performs there October 21.

It’s an epic road trip that would take you at least six hours by car. Take a flight instead from Sharjah in the first two weeks of October and you can see Italian opera singer Alessandro Safina in concert, plus renowned artist Damien Hirst is presenting the largest collection of his works ever seen at Al Riwaq Exhibition Space.
