If you’re a Dubai pet owner facing the difficult prospect of what to do with your animals while on holiday this summer, Etihad Airways has come up with a solution that might well be right up your street.
The Abu Dhabi airline is offering UAE residents a 10 percent discount to anywhere on their network if and only if they bring their pets with them.
That unfortunately doesn’t mean that the animals will travel for free, as according to an Etihad announcement, usual cargo fees for pets still apply.
However, if you’re a fairly big group this offer will prove to be a super saver as the 10 percent discount applies to up to nine guests on one booking on the lowest available fare.
The discount is available from May 15 to June 30 but applies for travel between June 1 and October 30.
The best way to book and find out more is by calling Etihad Cargo Customer Service on 8002535 or 02 5990099.
They will confirm the paperwork you have to submit (including your pet’s Health Certificate and an Export Permit).
Etihad’s announcement comes just as we reach the scorching summer months, a time of year when pet abandonment peaks in Dubai.
According to animal charities in the city, pet owners looking to go on holiday are put off by their misconceptions about flying animals across borders.
That, paired with general apathy and an unwillingness to pay for travel costs, has resulted in an ever-increasing number of dogs and cats being left to fend for themselves in the streets of Dubai.
