Many wishing to reserve their seat on Emirates flights will soon have to pay an additional fee.
In a move likely to upset the millions who use the world's most famous airline in and out of Dubai, it was confirmed that travellers are to face a levy ranging from Dhs50 to Dhs150.
The sum will only be added to Economy Class Special and Saver fares, and will vary depending on the flight distance. It comes into play on tickets issued on or after October 3.
Those who wait until online check-in opens, which is 48 hours before flight departure, will not have to pay.

In a statement, an Emirates spokesperson said: "Emirates can confirm the introduction of a minimal charge for those looking to select their Economy Class seat in advance, for tickets issued on or after October 3, 2016. The charge is only applicable on Special and Saver fares in Economy Class and will vary depending on the duration of the flight. Children below the age of two and accompanying passengers on the same booking will be exempted from the fee. This charge is also not applicable once online check-in opens, which is 48hrs before flight departure. At this stage, seat selection is free."
The news comes not long after all airline passengers were told anyone passing through the airport would have to pay Dhs35 for the privilege. The new rule came into effect for travel after June 30, 2016.
Collected by adding the small fee to the fare at the point of booking meant no-one was inconvenienced.
