Royal Brunei to end Dubai to Heathrow flights

Popular, affordable London route to cease in October

Travel

Frequent flier between Dubai and London Heathrow? One of the most popular services between the two cities is set to cease operations from October this year, as Royal Brunei Airlines launches direct flights between its Brunei hub and the UK capital.

While the new route will reduce the travel time between those two cities by 3.5 hours, it’s a blow for many travellers from Dubai, for whom the carrier has been a reliable, and often much more affordable option for travelling to London.

Its outbound flight times have also become more traveller-friendly in recent times, now departing around two hours earlier at 1.35am (though inbound flight times still get passengers back to Dubai at an eye-watering 3.45am).

Royal Brunei has been operating daily flights to London via Dubai since May 2004, and its last will be on Monday October 29, 2018.

According to Karam Chand, Royal Brunei’s CEO, “The through flight via Dubai has served us well; however, with the demand for more direct routing from our guests, it becomes an important commercial imperative to provide that.”

Fortunately, there’s still time until that October window to make the most of RB’s flights between Dubai and London Heathrow, with prices typically starting at around Dhs2,100 return.
